How to measure floor-to-floor height
Measure from finished lower floor to finished upper floor. If finishes are missing, add their designed build-ups separately and record the assumptions.
Why this parameter matters
Stair geometry is a system of dependencies: changing one dimension affects riser count, run, pitch, headroom and footprint. A single number should not be judged in isolation.
How to check it in practice
- Record all measurements in centimetres and mark whether they are structural or finished.
- Run at least two integer riser-count options.
- Check 2h+s, pitch, width, headroom and risers per flight.
- Verify the result on site and in the project documentation.
Note: Current requirements and design scope depend on building type. The calculator does not replace a qualified professional.
